It is the second bout for 'The Destroyer' since his two failed voluntary drugs tests that forced the cancellation of a blockbuster grudge match with Chris Eubank Jr in October 2022 and sparked all the subsequent controversy and fallout.

Benn's first fight since brushing aside Chris van Heerden in Manchester in April 2022 came at late notice on a low-key bill in Orlando back in September, when he earned a unanimous decision win over Rodolfo Orozco following the lifting of his provisional suspension.

Benn - who insists he is innocent of intentionally doping having tested positive for the female fertility drug clomifene before his proposed clash with Eubank Jr - still does not hold a boxing license in the UK as he awaits the verdict of a British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) appeal against the lifting of that provisional UKAD suspension by the National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP).

That appeal is expected to be heard this month, but for now Benn is back Stateside for his latest tune-up against Dobson, an undefeated 33-year-old American welterweight whose professional record currently stands at 16-0 with nine knockouts.

New Yorker Dobson has not fought since the summer of 2022 though, when he outpointed Argentine southpaw Rodrigo Damian Coria in Atlanta.

Only competing once in 2023, Conor Benn has a chance to fight multiple times in 2024. First, he must get past Peter Dobson on February 3. The fight in Las Vegas airs on DAZN worldwide.

Benn fought three times in 2021 and was ready for a busy 2022 until he failed multiple drug tests. Due to a “highly elevated consumption of eggs,” Benn was suspended by UKAD. Maintaining his innocence, Benn has looked for a way to compete, resulting in his recent world tour of America. He returned to action in September, beating Rodolfo Orozco in Florida. If all goes according to plan, Eddie Hearn looks to have Benn fight often to make up for lost time.

“It’s going to be part of a really busy period for Conor Benn,” Hearn said to Matchroom via Essentially Sports. “So we’re already in talks with some big names in April, but he’s got to come through Dobson. We want to keep him nice and busy.”

The Bronx-born Dobson turned pro in 2014. He’s won nine fights via knockout, his last win via the power punch back in 2021. The 33-year-old last fought in June 2022, beating Rodrigo Damian Coria via unanimous decision.

Since failing two drug tests in 2022, ahead of a scrapped fight with Chris Eubank Jr, Benn has still not been fully cleared to compete on home soil. The 27-year-old therefore crossed the pond in September to stay active, beating Rodolfo Orozco on points.

Benn has returned to the States this week, as he prepares to face a fellow unbeaten professional in Peter Dobson. While Benn’s record stands at 22-0 (14 knockouts), home fighter Dobson is 16-0 (9 KOs).

Benn is still eyeing a huge clash with Eubank Jr, more than 30 years since their fathers rounded out their two-fight rivalry, while 33-year-old Dobson is looking to spoil those plans.

Benn has fought just once since he failed a drugs test before his doomed fight with Chris Eubank Jr in 2022. Talks to resurrect that fight for this month failed to produce an agreement and Benn was forced to look elsewhere. He will take on fellow undefeated fighter Peter Dobson who is attempting to inflict a first defeat on his rival.

Benn knows big fights await him if he can extend his winning run, even if he will be fighting in Sin City without the razzmatazz that normally accompanies British fighters in Las Vegas.

Dobson was supposed to fight for Matchroom this past November, but his opponent Pat McCormack suffered an injury and withdrew. Since then, ‘Pistol Pete’ has waited for another opportunity, which eventually came against Benn.

Benn (22-0, 14 KOs) is coming off a 10-round decision win over Rodolfo Orozco in September. The original plan was for the Englishman to face white-hot rival Chris Eubank Jr. in a middleweight bout, but negotiations for that ill-fated encounter fell apart.

Dobson (16-0, 9 KOs) has done everything asked of him as a professional, although he's been inactive recently. This will be the New Yorker’s first bout since June 2022, when he scored an eight-round decision over Rodrigo Damian Coria.

Still fighting his corner over two failed VADA doping tests in 2022, Benn is hoping to use this bout as a springboard to bigger things. The Eubank fight appears doomed, so the ideal scenario would be for Benn to win impressively before targeting one of the world's leading welterweights.
